War and Games

Physical exercise was taken in very high account at the barracks and no single day would go by without it. The rules were clear: weather temperature higher than -5 degrees, the soldiers would use shorts and short sleeve shirts. Between -5 and -15, long trousers. Lower than -15 the soldiers could opt to wear a jacket.
However, the soldiers also had the chance to perform indoor training exercises. This large gym with an olympic swimming pool can be found in the former russian barracks, and it was used by the germans to prepare some of their athletes which participated at the olympic games of 1936.

This shot was obtained out of 3 brackets using the canon 14mm f2.8L II, tonemaped and post-processed with the concept of emphasizing the natural blue colours of the swimming pool’s tiles, in order to better convey the feeling of how it once used to look like.
