Swinging Stairs

“architecture,

This stairs were designed by Friedrich Friesen as part of the Reichsportsfeld, adjacent to what is today the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Its cosntruciton was finished in 1936 as part of the “Deutsches Sportforum,”  a sporting venue erected for de 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, where the fencing and modern pentathlon would take place.
Although this area was more or less spared of the attacks during the Second World War, the buildings went through a rough period over the last decades.
After the German capitulation in 1945, the buildings were taken over by the British military contigent in Berlin and were then used as the headquarters of the British garrison until the mid-1990s, when the buildings returned to German control.
